War! Part 2

On the morning of Sunday, December 7, 1941, when President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and his chief foreign policy advisor desperately tried to contact members of the Justice Society of America, Hawkman discovered the temporary meeting rooms of the Justice Society of America (Wesley Dodds’ penthouse) empty… except for Plastic Man.

They turned on the radio to hear:

…we repeat, virtually every member of the famous Justice Society has been attacked – and captured – by powerful but unidentified foes!

Indeed, Solomon Grundy, Professor Zodiak, Wotan, King Bee, and Sky Pirate had abducted key members of the team. As word of the bombing of Pearl Harbor spread, Plastic Man, Dr. Mid-Nite, the Atom, Johnny Quick, Liberty Belle, Hawkman, and Robotman convened at the White House…

The heroes were ready to spring into action, but FDR told them he hadn’t called them there to send them overseas – at least, not yet.

Your country has need of you – all of you – in a far different way…

For their first mission, FDR sent them to the West coast just in case the Japanese launched some kind of surprise attack there like they did in Hawaii. Indeed, some thirty fighter planes swooped in from the sea toward the Golden Gate Bridge, catapulted upward from a strange, huge craft, like rocks hurled by a slingshot…
