Mesopotamia

Remember that when Krona brought evil into the universe, the Oan society divided. One group evolved into the Guardians and another evolved into the Controllers.

The Controllers left Oa and wandered the universe gaining great powers. Among the worlds they seeded was the planet Earth. They settled in a land called Mesopotamia and the mortals worshipped them as gods.

Madame Xanadu (vol. 1) #1, 1981

To the people of Mesopotamia, these were the Anunnaki, children of the sky-god, Anu. However, just as had happened on Oa, the Anunnaki divided. When members of one group murdered the husband of their cousin, Ishtar, she sought revenge and enlisted human allies to help her.

Green Lantern (vol. 3) Annual #9, Sept. 2000

Istar and Ninurta defeated Tiamat’s demons, sent them to Kurnugi (the Babylonian underworld), and created a gateway to seal them from our world “forever.”

Suffice it to say that Istar enjoyed the company of her human allies and eventually took one to replace her lost husband. They settled in Northern Africa and begat many children.
