In 1828, Bartholomew “Bat” Lash was born to Lemuel and Martha Lash at their farmhouse in Texas. He grew up to be the sort of unconventional person whose gambling and gunslinging would get him into trouble in the Old West. He was always well-mannered and groomed, often placing a flower in the band of his hat.

His was in love with Dominique, daughter of Gavin Wilder and betrothed of the sheriff, Brubaker. In a plot worthy of a soap opera, conflict among the three men led to the death of Bat’s family and the destruction of the farm.

After all that transpired, Dominique left Bat to join a convent.
Our families are dead, Bat. Mine killed yours and I killed my own father! We were doomed, Bat. Doomed back before we were even born — back when your mother and my father were the ages we are now.
This took Bat on the road. During one of his adventures in New Orleans, he won the deed to the Bourbon Street Social Club in a riverboat game of Five-Card Draw.
Trouble was, somebody didn’t want me to keep the deed — an’ hired three owl hoots to kill me in my sleep… unfortunately for them!
Unfortunately for me, I got suckered by a party young thing named Lavender, who picked the deed right outta my pocket — even as she pushed me overboard.
Lavender had taken the deed for Bat’s “poker pal,” Calhoun, but ran off with it for herself.

On the night of the Mardi Gras parade, an accident started the Social Club on fire.

Bat got his deed, but the building burned down. There was also the matter of hidden confederate gold that melted during the fire…

We’ll see Bat Lash again… in another time and another place…
