Spider Guild

The Spider Guild are a coalition of arachnids that developed the ability to travel through space. They used that ability to conquer other races using fleets of drones that released robot spiders to wrap their victims in webbing. (They’re used later as food for their hatchlings.)

Green Lantern (vol. 2) #189 (June 1985)

Brin was an equine Green Lantern who faced the Spider Guild.

I foolishly rushed to attack… and barely escaped with my life! Having no recourse, I appealed to the Guardians — who sent other Corps members to do what I could not.

Green Lantern (vol. 2) #167 (Aug. 1983)

When the battle was over, Brin was summoned to Oa to stand before the Guardians, who had decided to retire him from the Green Lantern Corps. His family’s robot “Teacher” was chosen to succeed him.

Green Lantern (vol. 2) #167 (Aug. 1983)

Brin eventually died of natural causes , at home with his family.

Starhaven

Elsewhere, “nestled deep in the core of the Milky Way,” was a lush planet called Athrania.

Legion of Super-Heroes vol. 2 #305 (Nov. 1983)

800 years ago, Athranian gene farmers abducted the Anasazi tribe of Earth and hid them on their planet. Soon after, it fell to the Spider Guild, and the tribe was left to survive on their own. Surprisingly…

R.E.B.E.L.S. (vol. 2) #2 (May 2009)

The genetic experiments endowed them with wings and the ability to survive in space without oxygen or protection from the rigors of space.

Their settlement became known as Starhaven, governed by a Council of Elders. The planet has a totally unspoiled environment and the government severely restricts visitors to ensure the planet’s continued conservation.
