We’ve previously mentioned the Knights Templar, a Catholic military order that participated in the Crusades for the Holy Land.
During this time, a group of knights had a falling out with the Templars and established a secret cabal in Switzerland.

This splinter group devoted itself to the teachings of Saint Dumas and created an angel of vengeance to protect the Lord’s word.
Another group of knights didn’t like the way the Order of St. Dumas spread their faith, so they formed the Order of Purity. They were more peaceful, but still needed protection.
In 1190 A.D., they crafted a suit of armor from the melted blades and breastplates of dozens of good, slain soldiers. The first knight to wear this “Suit of Sorrows” was Geoffrey de Cantonna.

With the addition of a Sword of Sin and Sword of Salvation, Azrael defended the Order of Purity, but at a great personal price. Upon donning the suit, de Cantonna soon lost his sense of right and wrong and went on a bloody rampage.
To protect their defender’s reputation, there was a cover-up and the suit was passed to the next knight. However, everyone who has worn it since has been driven mad…
