Prince Khufu lived during 19th dynasty of ancient Egypt. He and his betrothed, Chay-Ara, believed that when they died, their souls would remain on Earth for eternity.
When a spaceship from Thanagar landed in Egypt, he and his contemporaries, Nabu and Teth-Adam discovered its remains. Nabu cast a spell to interpret the words of its dying pilot, who whispered, “Nth Metal,” and Teth-Adam flew the ship to Khufu’s palace where it could be studied.

After harvesting the Nth Metal, the remaining pieces of the ship were melted and used to create a scarab, a deadly knife, and a battle glove. Exposure to the metal also altered Khufu and Chay-Ara, binding their souls so that their beliefs about reincarnation were proven true time and time again.
At the same time, Khufu had a feud with the evil priest, Hath-Set. He was captured and beaten…

Khufu escaped and returned to Chay-ara…

But if I must die — it will be with your name upon my lips. I shall always love you, Khufu… through all eternity — and one day, we would live again — love again!
Khufu had inadvertently led Hath-Set’s men to Chay-Ara and the couple was captured. Ironically, Khufu and Chay-Ara were killed by Hath-Set using the very knife that was forged from Nth Metal, but not before Khufu spoke…
