Eclipso

Following the war in Heaven, when Lucifer was cast down into Hell, one of the demons, Aztar, repented for his participation and sought forgiveness from the Presence. The result of the Presence’s judgment was that Aztar would become a vessel for the Wrath of God, transforming his remains into the Spectre Force.

At the time, there was already a spirit of wrath, Kaala. However, since Kaala had begun to take advantage of his power, reveling in inflicting savage punishments, he was cast out and replaced by Aztar. Kaala survived through millennia by possessing a number of physical hosts.

On Gemworld, a pocket dimension originally “owned” by the Lords of Chaos and populated by supernatural creatures who migrated from ancient Earth, Kaala was a prince of the Royal Houses of Onyx and Diamond. He started war, but was defeated by Lady Chandra of House Amethyst, who bound him inside a black diamond.

Alternate Histories

Stories of how exactly Kaala, aka Galid, came to be imprisoned in the black diamond vary. A simpler version says that the Presence itself trapped Galid in the “Heart of Darkness” and banished it to the dark side of the moon. This jewel is said to have been mined on Apokolips and brings only woe and misery to anyone who possesses it.

A more detailed, but unsubstantiated version says that 5,000 years ago in Egypt, “Eclipso” manifested in the Tigris-Euphrates river basin,  and flooded the area, drowning thousands of people. When the local leaders made a pact with God to never again incur his wrath, Eclipso dishonored it and was banished to the dark side of the moon.

400 years later, he forged the “Heart of Darkness” and used his influence to help found the Sacred City of Caral-Supe in what is now called Peru. 40 years later, he was overthrown by his people and killed. The Heart of Darkness was taken deep into the Amazon and hidden in a temple.

Regardless of origin, Eclipso is an agent of Chaos that continues to this day to possess others as a means to enact his crimes. Tales of the people who came into contact with the Heart of Darkness abound…
