Vandal Savage

45,000 years ago, a caveman named Vandar Adg was born. Nothing is known about his mother except that she ate human flesh and had a necklace made of baby finger bones. (Archaeological evidence would later suggest that Vandar Adg invented Cannibalism.)

Meanwhile, the cosmic force of energy known as the Godwave spread across the universe leaving a seed of divinity everywhere it touched. As it made a pass over Earth, a meteor entered the atmosphere…

It burns through Earth’s atmosphere in the middle of the night, and the Neanderthals who watch the dark skies light up with fire pray to the Gods of the earth and sun and moon that this is not the end of all existence.

The meteorite crashed to the ground, bathing Vandar Adg in radiation and granting him incredible intellect, as well as immortality.

Green Lantern (vol. 1) #10 (Dec. 1943)

Klarn Arg, the sworn enemy of Vandar Adg, discovered the meteorite and extracted from it a glowing jewel. Before long, he discovered he had also gained immortality; however, if mortally wounded, he would instantly be reborn as someone else.
