Stone Age

15 million years ago, the first hominids, or “great apes,” appeared on Earth.

About 10 million years later, Homo genus (humans) branched from their common ancestor, along with chimpanzees.

About 2.5 million years after that, humans began using stone tools; thus, launching the Stone Age.

Elsewhere…

About this time, a Mother Star wandered the galaxy preying upon civilized worlds. With a total absence of any moral code at all, it sent its spores to the planet Hatorei, where they took control of the population, the most ethical culture that ever existed.

R.E.B.E.L.S. (vol. 2) Annual #1

Typically, a lone Mother Star would find a new world and enslave the population. But on Hatorei it was different, for these drones could not be rendered completely mindless… Though their bodies belonged to the star, the link still existed.

The Mother Star on Hatorei was old and dying and vulnerable. Her final act was to spawn a new clutch of mother stars from which would rise the new star queen. The newborns hatched and fought until only one survived. This victor, Starro, left the planet and drifted through open space…

Back on Earth…

About 1.8 million years ago, the first Home erectus, or “upright man,” appeared.

As you remember, White Martians had visited Earth and established a colony in Z’onn Z’orr, a city hidden in the wastelands of Antarctica. They found early man to be primitive and easy to manipulate, and they performed genetic experiments on them.

Their interventions provoked a biological catastrophe. Earth was intended to be the home of a race of super-powered beings…

As a result, the White Martians created a metavirus, a metagene that could be passed from host to host via touch.

With the ongoing civil war and the crimes they committed, the Green Martians punished the White Martians by trapping them in the Still Zone, a homeostatic continuum existing outside the parameters of space/time.

JLA #4

Z’onn Z’orr was abandoned and remained undiscovered for millions of years.

Meanwhile…

During the Stone Age, humans discovered fire, language, magic, and… weapons…
