While the Earth was evolving from its primitive beginnings, other planets had grown to maturity. One such planet, Ma’aleca’andra (Mars) was home to a powerful but barbaric race known as “the Burning.”
Fearing the death and destruction the Burning would deliver to an untold number of lives and species, the Guardians split them into two distinct races: the Green Martians and the White Martians, both with a fear of fire intended to keep them from remembering their origins. While the Green Martians were peaceful, the White Martians were savage.

The Green Martian clones were called Red Saturnians, and the White Martian clones were called White Saturnians. The Green Martians treated the Red Saturnians as equals, but the White Martians treated the White Saturnians as slaves. This eventually led to civil war.
At some point in Earth’s ancient past, a group of White Martians established a colony in Z’onn Z’orr, a city hidden in the wastelands of Antarctica…
