His brother, Alpheus (the World Forger), had not noticed because he was busy at his forge, creating new lives bursting with possibilities. Not all had been successful, though, so he had created “a pet of sorts to consume those which fall back, decayed.”

When they confronted their mother, Perpetua told them she had searched all her universes for perfect beings. Finding none, she combined the DNA of those from Earth and those from a neighboring planet, Mars, to create fierce Apex Predators capable of claiming other multiverses on her behalf.

Mar Novu asked his mother why she hadn’t obeyed the rules of the Presence, either dying or returning to the Source to create other multiverses, and what intentions she had for creatures meant to live and fight forever. She ironically warned him to speak carefully:

In all the Omniverse, there is perhaps no greater sin than to reach beyond what you are meant to know.

200,000 years later, Mar Novu and his brothers, Alpheus and Mobius (the Anti-monitor) broadcast a signal into the Omniverse to inform the Judges of the Source what was happening. Suddenly, they were ambushed.

The Apex Predators were left either embedded in the Source Wall…

…or chained to enormous rocks floating through space in the Promethean Galaxy.

Alpheus returned to his forge, but Mar Novu told Alpheus:

Soon we will be re-formed, born again.

Because the Source Wall rendered the function of his domain obsolete, Mobius was not happy. Thus, a rift between the Monitor and the Anti-Monitor was created…
